How To Measure For Your Countertops

Step

Determine Depth

First, determine the depth (front-to-back measurement). Standard base cabinets are 24," and standard post form laminate countertops are 25", which allows for a 1" overhang on the front.

Measure Length

Measure the length of each counter section using the back wall. Be sure to mark each top with the correct depth measurement, so we know whether it is a standard top or bar top (open on both sides). Suppose you have an "L" or "U" shaped countertop, measure from the end to the corner in the back. If you have an "L" or "U" shaped countertop with one of the tops being a bar top, please note that on your drawing. Bar tops are 26", 30", or 36" standard size. They can be special ordered to any size up to 42" wide, for an extra charge.

Find The Sink Center

To find the sink center, measure from the end of your countertop to the CENTER of your sink or sink base cabinet. Note whether you have a single, double, or triple bowl sink. Do this also for cooktop cutouts center measurements.

Caps & Side Splash

Please note whether a cap or side splash will be needed on the ends of the countertops. Caps are put on the visible sides of countertops. Ends that are against the wall or oven cabinet have a set-on side splash.

Back Splashes?

Let us know if you do or don't want back splashes. Sometimes, depending on the material, it is either included in the price or more or less.

    Original quote and measurements were accurate. Had to order specialty piece for extra wide island, so install had to be scheduled for several weeks out. No problems with contacting or obtaining quote from company. Much better customer service, price and attention that I was able to find at the big box competitors. I believe in multiple quotes and this company came in average compared to others, but they definitely excelled in quality and service. I recommended them to my mother who had her countertops replaced in March of 2013 and she is very pleased with their service, quality and price.

    We're still in the process of deciding, but after seeing one person express such a poor experience, I thought I should share my good experience with the community to offset. I contacted Ernie late on a Friday night to see if we could get into his showroom on Saturday (normally by appointment only) and he was very responsive to accommodate my request. Since then, we've spoken by phone, and exchanged information via email about countertop options and prices. His prices seem to be mid-range; we've received lower quotes and higher quotes.
